As part of MT Ground Validation activities apre-launch campaign was held this summer over our GV super-site, in Niger. We used an instrumented aircraft in combination with two ground based weather RADAR, to get new insights in the microphysics of the Mesoscale Convective Systems that propagate in West Africa.
The main objective of this campaign was to get some upgraded information on the radiative properties of the icy hydrometeors that the MT MADRAS radiometer will be sensing over the continental Tropics.
Altogether 11 successful flights occurred ;the preliminary feedbacks from the campaign are very positive and the whole team is now very busy processing the data !
