Since April 13, Météo-France new operational suite of Numerical Weather Prediction systems have been assimilating SAPHIR observations in real time. The new versions of the ARPEGE global model, running at 7.5km over Europe and 36 km at the antipodes, as well as of the regional model ALADIN Réunion therefore benefit from SAPHIR data, disseminated in real time by Eumetsat. The figure below shows in orange the location of SAPHIR observations which were assimilated within the ARPEGE analysis of April 15 at 00H UTC, together with the assimilated observations from other AMSU-B/MHS microwave sounders.
The monitoring of SAPHIR observations as well as the monitoring of other observations used within the ARPEGE 4D-Var assimilation system is available online:
Please select ATOVS instruments in the satellite observations list, MEGHA-TROPIQUES in the satellite list and AMSU-B/MHS/SAPHIR in the instrument list to display time series of innovation statistics (observation – model simulation) for each of the 6 SAPHIR channels.
